seth rogen and judd appatow are part of the glass ceiling (my epiphany)!?
Seth rogen and judd appatow are part of the glass ceiling (my epiphany)!?
to any feminists, one’s that are truly read on the subject, and agree because they have come to the honest conclusion that women’s rights were still relevant despite what their televisions told them - you know the messages these movies send.

i feel like we’re inundated with these movies. it seems like someone like hillary clinton is seen through seth rogen goggles- like here’s the mental "synaptic" path of the rabid anti-hillary freak (because if you love obama, and hate hillary when their platforms were always seen as very similar, then you’re mental, that or you don’t know what the **** you’re talking about.)- "hey she’s a driven, independent woman, in movies and television these women are always uptight, and deep down, just need a date- hmm, i guess that’s reality".

i think men see this because that’s what they feel when they’re not with a woman. i say this because research has found that, despite what the media perpetuates, men are more romantic minded than women. these are simply the statistics. after divorce, women’s mental health is said to go up, and men’s go down. this has no bias, because it is simply facts i’m spitting out. i have put no spin on this. look it up if you like.

so anyway, this is why seth rogen and judd appatow (i don’t know if i’m pelling this guy’s name right btw) are a big, fat chunk of the glass ceiling.

Matrix trilogy questions… some things I'm unsure about?
In Revolutions how or why does Neo have powers in the real world? In Reloaded why do the agents want to kill the key maker? and why does Smith want to destroy everything? Any explanations for any of these questions would be well appreciated.

Smith does not want to destroy everything - he represents the machine - the status quo.

Smith wants everything to be exactly as it was before Neo appeared on the scene - where everything is controlled by the machine. (and no-body realises it isn’t real)

The key-maker represents "anarchy":
All may be proceeding nicely… then the key-maker changes an outcome - so outcomes are no longer predictable.

If the key-maker is removed, predicted outcomes are more likely - therefore situations can be better controlled

The Matrix trilogy is all about control. To have control, you have to be prepared to use it.

If you fail to use it, someone else can take it from you.

As for Neo having special powers in both worlds - why not? If you know how to do something in a virtual sense - why is that skill not transferable to the real-world. It is the same skill, you are capable of exercising the same motor-skills to achieve your goal. Make it happen.

There is no spoon.

cornflake#1 | Nov 23, 2009

Well… all 3 questions are tricky… but here are my thoughts on them:
Neo is basically like the bios of a computer and when he takes over the hostile virus program (the machine which is basically working on its own), he’s able to influence both the machine world and the real world (the machine world cannot exist without the real world - and when he becomes integrated with the main frame he’s ‘the best’ of both worlds)
The agents (whom are like anti-virus-programs) consider the key maker a virus (because he can change the future by giving Neo the keys to come further inside the machine world) - and therefore a threat to their existence
Smith becomes the virus himself (and like the worst of them - they want to destroy your entire computer with everything in it)

Did Nostradamus hint at something greater than we know, that religion had gone afoul, the sword of truth …?
would be raised against it, and as a result the choice for a new beginning in an unadulterated world(blank pages) would be offered to mankind by the "Anti-Christ," someone outside of the fear-mongering manipulation and gamesmanship of "the Church" and other organized religion?
And, would this someone be a woman? -He encoded lots of his work in case it was discovered -he did not want to be executed for blasphemy, (like many argue Da Vinci did also) Roi Reb could be code for a feminine version of Robert, in French, pronounced Roh Bair’ (the "t" silent), reversing the last syllable could be a clue to the inversion of gender, and the spelling of the first syllable is consistent with the phonetic change in pronunciation of the female version of the name.
Whether he was clairvoyant or clairaudient or received his signs by other means is not clear, but in that day, it was rare that women led, so he may or may not have been cognizant of this possible interpretation, or …he may have left us a clue no one else has considered yet.

So, is the one deemed to be Satan by "the Church" to be the true Savior of humanity, emancipating men from their blind loyalty to its lies? And, will it be a woman who challenges and ends the reign of terror of the truly Most Unholy?

No.
Jack P | Feb 05, 2010

While Nostradamus may have hinted at such, it is not "greater than I know."
S. T. | Feb 05, 2010

Nostradamus chewed on mushrooms to have his visions. You can get the same by smoking pot in Amsterdam. However, his job was to ’see into the future’ so he was careful that what he ’saw’ during his hallucinations was obscure enough anyone could read something in them and pleasant enough to the nobles and royalty that they would keep on paying him for his ‘visions’.

And by the way, he spoke French and in French there’s no "phonetic change in pronunciation of the female version of the name (Robert)". There’s no female version of the name either.

Looking into this as a career and would like to know some information about the pay.

the same as all the other marines i think?

All MOS’s in the military get paid the same based on rank, time in service, and additional qualifiers such as mastery of foreign language, special forces, airborne, etc. CBRN does not have any initial education that will warrant a pay increase, but might come with an enlistment bonus.

What is your honest opinion on this short story?
(Constructive criticism is very much so welcome.)

I am hollow imperfection. Your apparently serene words of protest are ignorant and apathetic. They only prove that you have failed to apprehend that what I do does not wound me; it instead cures me. Perfects these imperfections.

****

I am seated in your office once again, confined in your supposedly soothing prison. I refuse to lay atop your lunatics couch, choosing instead a much stiffer chair that seems be a reflection of your hardened gaze. I don’t belong here. In this office or this nuthouse. I’m not psychotic like the rest of these abnormalities; the only crime that has led me to this cage is my fatness.

Shameful, indubitable, disgusting fatness. Pinpointed in my pillowy thighs and rotundly, vomitous mess of a stomach. I haven’t lost enough weight: I’m as revolting as ever, and am sure to have my nauseating weight increase even more with the ways in which they shove it down my throat. Food. Can’t they see I’m repulsive enough? Have they somehow overlooked my incontestable flab?

You’re talking now, and goggling at me with your bulging grey eyes. I can as good as see your mind formulating insults that properly describe me, know you hate me just as much as everyone does. As if as a confirmation to my thoughts, you pull out a tray of cookies and offer them to me; you’re probably eager to see the fat girl scramble to devour them all. I refuse to give you the satisfaction and instead shake my head no.

I can vaguely remember a time when upon seeing a chocolate-chip cookie I thought not of jiggling thighs and the foul three hundred and eighty nine calories within, but instead of it’s mouth-watering relish. Oh, how dreadful I was! So sickeningly fat!

Tuning out your monotonous questions and theories has been effortless enough so far, but one statement hits me hard and sends a violent shudder from my brain to my toes.

"You’ve gained weight, the doctors tell me. You’re up to eighty pounds." You declare with gross pleasure, smiling a wide, yellowed grin. There’s a piece of lettuce lodged between your front two teeth and seeing this sends a wave of inexplicably intense revulsion and hatred throughout my entire body. I want to wrench your vulture-like head from her lumpy body and snap each of those flawless manicured crimson nails in half. Excruciatingly vicious thoughts began to taint my mind and it was evident at that moment that every fat-ridden fiber of my being despised you with a passionate wrath.

Perhaps you interpreted the choleric blackness twisting my face, for your previously thrilled beaming has turned grim.

"Can I ask you something?" You query somberly, casting me a somewhat perplexed sideways glance.

I want to stand up and screech and strike you across the face. I want to experience the intoxicating gratification of seeing your face become the same bloodied color as your nails, just like the overwhelming satisfaction of losing another pound. But something or someone silently tells me not to. So I nod my head, scowling.

"Why do you think you do this? Why are you starving yourself?" You’re nearly tearful.

At first I don’t know what to say. Then immediately the answer seems quite clear, as if it had been there the whole time.

"I’m not starving myself… I’m perfecting my emptiness." Somehow I choke this out, and the feebleness of my voice petrifies me. And suddenly, everything is terrifying.

Your pensive face, the looming gray walls that confine me, the inky, approaching shadows: all frighten me into an unbearable state of mind. My breathing rapid and uneven and my feet wobbling beneath me, I shove myself off that straight-backed chair and burst from your trap. My feet carry me to my empty room of their own accord and I somehow find myself collapsing on my knees onto the frigid hospital floor and lifting my mattress up, searching desperately for the stolen bottle of pain-killers lurking beneath it. My hand closes around the bottle and I have never felt such a passionate relief, a reassurance that brings chilling goosebumps to my arms and a smirk to my chattering lips. Briskly and with feverish delight I pour a glass of water from the pitcher placed upon my bed-side table. If only takes me a minute of anxious struggle to unscrew the top off the pain-killers, and only another minute to down the entire content of the bottle with the aid of my water.

Instantly, I feel exhausted and keel over onto my bumpy mattress. Upon this crumpling, a series of memories begins to reel inside my thoughts.

Was this my life flashing before me eyes? How cliche.

I see mother, and she’s not dead at all, but alternatively she’s alive and just as enchanting as ever, offering me her hand. I am ecstatic.

I see my father and my baby brother chuckling and grinning, father wiping his glasses on his black polo shirt. I grow happier.

I see a skeletal body and I feel guilty when this is the image that makes me most euphoric.
They cut off the last sentence:
I died confused.

Roma Gypsies in the Holy Bible?
I believe that Roma were in Egypt at some point in the remote past, my elders tell me that Pharaoh called us "Roma" the meaning in ancient Egyptian tongue is "The People" and "Rom" in Egyptian meant "man", to this day these words have stuck.

The location of the tower of Babel is "Barshiba" located in Iraq, in the Romani tongue of Roma Gypsies, this has a very significant meaning, "Bar" in Romani, means "Stone" or "Fortress" and "Shibah" Means tongues, thus we get when the two words are amalgamated "Stone Tongues" or more properly "Stone/fortress of tongues", Romani uses seven cases, so there is no word for of, it’s implied in the case structure of the sentence.
Coincidence?

Thirdly, the days of the week in the Romani language is very revealing, in particular the two words for "Wednesday" and "Sunday".
"Wednesday" in Romani is "Tetrajini", as Roma has many Greek words and also the cases belonging to that language, I know, as I am a Roma Gypsy that this word "Tetrajini" signifies the fourth day of the week, because of the first five letters in the Romani word for wednesday is "TETRA-" this is Greek for the letter "4"
That means saturday is the Shabat.

The Roma word used for "Saturday" is "Sabatone" meaning, "On Shabat day" because of the adverb added on the end "-one" This means, without a doubt Roma Gypsies must have, in antiquity, used the Hebrew calendar.
Why if not Jews?

Lastly, "Friday", like Jews, Roma light candles on this day, which in the Gypsy tongue is called "Parashatone" Isn’t more than coincidence that, Jews, though I don’t know if they still do, read "Parashat" in the synogogue on Fridays.
Mere coincidence?
I believe we are one of the tribes that was exiled to the indus valley, there is much evidence in our laws/traditions and beliefs, too many to add here.

Some people think the Hebrew word, "Hebrew" is a variant of the ancient Egyptian word "Hapiru" meaning wondering people e.g. Nomads.
Paul | Feb 04, 2010

Your suggestions are without basis. The Romani did not appear in the middle east until about 1000 CE; moving from India westward into Europe and North Africa.
Fred Bauder | Feb 04, 2010

Gypsies originate from India. There is lots of historical and genetic evidence to support this. Also, like you said, there is greek influence in the romani language. However, the claim that the gypsies originated in Egypt is a misconception. There is no evidence, linguistic or genetic to support Egyptian origin.

Interesting…
I wonder how long ‘they’ will allow it to stand.
~
Everard G | Feb 04, 2010

A nice theory but it doesn’t really fit the facts that we have been able to assemble concerning the Roma.

We know from genetic mitochondria that the Roma must have migrated from northwestern India to Europe in the 11th century, mainly originating from the Punjab and Rajasthan regions which are considered the universal Roma homeland and place of origin.

Supporting the biological information Linguistic studies and analysis shows us that the Romani language bears elements of Indian origin. There is also a striking resemblance between the Roma and the people of these regions regarding a number of customs, similarity of technology, like metal working, related social structure and so on.

Historical records show that while there may have been several reasons why the Roma left their homeland including famine or droughts or that they wanted to escape the strictness of the Indian caste system, the prevailing theory is that they had been pushed to the West while fighting against the Muslims. We know from historical writings that in the early 11th century, the Muslim General Mahmud of Ghazni wanted to push Islam eastwards into India and eliminate Hinduism that was the dominant religion in that region at that time.

Based on linguistic and historical evidence, it seems that the Roma crossed the Himalayas, followed the Silk Road to the Caspian Sea, went along the foothills of the Caucasus range and entered the Byzantine Empire. They continued through Asia Minor and the Balkans, settled for quite some time in Greece, (which explains the numerous Greek words in Romani language) and then advanced up the Danube valley into Central Europe. By the 15th century, the Roma were scattered all throughout Europe, including Scandinavia, England and Scotland.

The term Gypsy was applied to the Roma only when they had arrived in Europe by people who thought that the Roma "looked" Egyptian/North African, to them…

I just wanted make a few points against religion and was interested what any opposing sides might have to say.?
interesting points I would like to make

* If God is all-powerful, why did he take 6 days to create the universe, resting on the 7th? Why didn’t he just snap his proverbial fingers and create everything all at once, and not need rest afterwards? Doesn’t sound so all-powerful to me.
* If God knows the future, why does he make mistakes? He should have known he would regret the flood, and that Sodom and Gomora would be full of sinners, etc.
* Why does God need to be "served", and why can’t we do it from heaven?
* Yes, we have free will, but God already knows who will sin, who will accept Him, etc, for all eternity (since he has perfect knowledge of the future). Why then, are we here? Why not just send our souls to Heaven or Hell, depending on what he knows we’ll do?
* Why does God care if he is praised? He is this all-knowing, super being, why does he care if we mere humans give him credit for creating the universe?
* How can you justify the fact that this merciful, loving god is sending all non-Christians to Hell, no matter how good they are? Even those from before Christ was born went to hell. However, terrible people, including Hitler and Jeffrey Dahmer, could go to Heaven if they repented before death.
* Why does this wonderful, forgiving God hold Adam’s sin over all our heads? Why must we all pay for this by being permanent sinners? If God was so pissed, why didn’t he just kill Adam and Eve and start over? Again, this is God’s choice, so they’re going to have to explain why God CHOOSES to hold this incredible grudge.
* Where did God come from? How did he get created? Why is it a valid argument to say that He "always existed", but an invalid argument to say the same thing about matter and energy?
* Why would god have to make a son to forgive us for our sins, why couldn’t he just do it…I’m not putting him for the father of the year award to say the least.

Imagine for a minute that you are God with all his unlimited powers.

1) You decide that for some reason that the people on planet Earth need guidance for their own good. Do you

(a) Appear before one person in a vision, give them secret instructions and hope they pass it on correctly and don’t take liberties, or

(b) Appear before the masses and tell them direct, thereby proving your existence beyond doubt and at the same time ensuring that they get the right message.

2) You wish to have your laws continued forever. Do you

a) Tell them once and disappear for a couple of thousand years or more, or

(b) Make regular appearances to reinforce belief.

3) You care for these people, so when you see things going terribly wrong, do you

a) Sit back and watch the fun, or

(b) Step in again with some timely advice.

4) You have unlimited powers, you can create the world any way you want. Do you

(a) Make the climate changeable and unpredictable resulting in the deaths of millions due to drought, floods, heat waves etc. Or

(b) Create a stable climate so that the population can grow their crops and feed themselves.

Quotes that I wanted to include as well:

Geology shows that fossils are of different ages. Paleontology shows a fossil sequence, the list of species represented changes through time. Taxonomy shows biological relationships among species. Evolution is the explanation that threads it all together. Creationism is the practice of squeezing one’s eyes shut and wailing "does not!."
